English classes for English Speaking children
The Classes

Our classes are small, a maximum of 10 children per teacher in the nursery groups and 12 in the primary levels. This enables each child to have individual time with their teacher thus developing their language and reading skills at their own pace.

The Maternelle 1, age 3-4 (Petite section)
Thursday: 9.15 to 11.45 a.m.
The classes are taught by Tanya Chailloux, a trained Montessori teacher. Montessori methods are used to develop their manual, visual and organisational skills.

Maternelle 2-3, age 4-6 (Moyenne and Grande section)
Monday and Thursday: 1.30 to 4 p.m.
Each week, the children are introduced to a new sound. The activities revolve around the weeks sound. During the year reading is gradually introduced to the 4 to 5 year old group. The 5 to 6 year olds begin work on word formation and simple sentence construction. Each child has an individual reading session with a teacher.

A reading book and a library book are to be read at home each week.

Primary 1, age 6-8 (CP to CE1)
Wednesday: 9.30 to 12 a.m.
The CP and CE1 classes continue to develop the child’s writing skills, through grammar and writing exercises. Also the children have an individual 10 minute reading sessions with a teacher. Both courses focus on reading, writing and spelling.

There is home work every week.

Primary 2, age 8-11(CE2 to CM2)
Wednesday: 1 to 3.30 p.m.
The classes continue to build up the child’s grammar and writing skills through weekly exercises. The principal aim of the CM1 and CM2 classes is to develop the child’s creative writing skills and their verbal presentation skills.

Each class has three set reading books pr. year. There are roughly 1 and 1/2 hours of homework pr. week, as well as some reading.
